HANDMADE CERAMIC PRODUCT CARE

Simple steps for everyday use

Clayometry handmade ceramics are made to be used and enjoyed. Like any ceramic, they can be fragile – a little care goes a long way and helps your piece stay beautiful for years.

Quick FAQs

  • Is ceramic jewelry waterproof? Ceramic can handle small splashes, but we recommend avoiding water and chemicals – especially on luster/metallic details.
  • Can handmade ceramic tableware go in the dishwasher? Hand washing is safest. If you use a dishwasher, choose a gentle program and avoid items knocking together.
  • Is luster microwave-safe? Metallic/luster details are generally not microwave-safe.
  • Can I use the oven? Unless explicitly stated on the product page, please do not use handmade ceramics in an oven.

General care for handmade ceramics (applies to all ceramic pieces)

  • Handle with care and avoid dropping or knocking against hard surfaces.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes (thermal shock): don’t move a piece from a very cold to a very hot environment (and vice versa).
  • Keep away from harsh chemicals (bleach, strong cleaners) and abrasive sponges/powders.
  • Small variations in glaze, color, or texture are part of the charm of handmade ceramic work.

How to care for ceramic jewelry (ceramic earrings, necklaces, brooches)

Ceramic jewelry is delicate and breakable, just like a small porcelain piece.

Wear with care

  • Put your jewelry on last and take it off first (after makeup, perfume, hairspray, skincare).
  • Remove before sleeping, showering, swimming, exercising, or housework.
  • Avoid impact – this is especially important for larger pieces.

Storage

  • Store ceramic jewelry separately (in its box or a soft pouch) to prevent rubbing and scratches – especially on luster details (real gold/platinum or other metallic finishes).

Cleaning

  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
  • For luster/metallic details, use a silver polishing cloth very lightly.
  • Do not soak in water or use ultrasonic cleaners, abrasives, or harsh chemicals.

How to care for handmade ceramic tableware (cups, plates, bowls)

Our ceramic tableware is made to be practical, but handmade ceramics still benefit from gentle treatment.

Everyday use

  • Avoid banging against sinks, taps, or other hard dishware.
  • To reduce the risk of chipping, don’t stack pieces roughly – use a soft cloth/paper towel between pieces if needed.

Washing

  • Hand washing is the safest option for handmade ceramic tableware.
  • If you use a dishwasher, choose a gentle program and avoid overcrowding so pieces don’t knock into each other.
  • Pieces with luster/gold/platinum details should be hand-washed only.

Heat & temperature

  • Avoid rapid temperature changes (e.g., pouring boiling water into an ice-cold cup).
  • Unless explicitly stated on the product page, do not use in an oven.
  • If microwave use matters, check the product description (luster/metallic details are typically not microwave-safe).

Stains & marks

  • Tea/coffee can sometimes leave light marks over time. Clean with mild dish soap and a soft sponge – avoid abrasive scrubbers.

Homeware & décor care (vases, trays, wall décor, decorative objects)

Display & handling

  • Place décor pieces on a stable surface and avoid areas where they can be easily knocked over.
  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.

Water (for vases)

  • If a vase is used with water, refresh the water regularly and avoid harsh cleaners inside.
  • Some handmade ceramic vases may not be intended for long-term water storage – please follow any notes on the product page.

Finishes & details

  • Luster/metallic accents look best when treated gently: avoid friction, harsh cleaners, and prolonged moisture.
